Five Good Friends offers a self-managed membership option that enables Members to coordinate their own care and services by using certain features and tools we provide in the app. One feature is known as the Helper Match Request which supports them to search and communicate with Helpers to set up their services, negotiate days, time, rates and book in visits.
Choice and control are essential for people who wish to self-manage – but it’s vital to offer this experience without compromising on our values of high-quality care. Matching Helpers to Members is an important aspect of quality service delivery. In our research, families regularly tell us about the confidence and reassurance you feel from having the same trusted people in their homes. Helpers also express how this improves their experience and their ability to provide help and support.
This article will show you how the self-managed match request feature works for Helpers.

What is a match request?
A match request is a feature within the app that allows our self-managed Members to search and shortlist available Helpers that meet their needs to provide a service. After they have selected their criteria, a list of Helpers is displayed for them to review. They can see your short bio, hourly rate, services and skills, and the time it takes to get to their home. If the Member is interested in learning more about you, they will send a request.

Accepting requests from Members
After a self-managed member has sent a match request, you will receive a notification in your app. Just so you know, a Helper match request is slightly different to an opportunity. An opportunity is a visit to a member which is broadcast from Five Good Friends to all local helpers to fill. A match request comes directly from a self-managed member. Both are work opportunities.
If you choose to connect, you will be encouraged to communicate directly with the Member to discuss the opportunity and negotiate specific details about the service. You can also arrange an initial meet-and-greet in a public place or via video chat or phone to confirm you are happy to provide services to the Member.
You also have the option to politely decline if you are no longer interested in providing the support or block user if required.
Creating a visit proposal
Creating a visit proposal
When you and the Member are ready, you can propose your first visit. To do this you will need to follow the below steps:
In the open chat window click on “view proposed visits” and select “propose new visit’’.
Fill out the details of the visit proposal as discussed with the Member, including service type, date and time, and visit rates. Once completed select “propose visit”.
The Member will need to accept the visit proposal before a service can occur. Please note the proposal can be adjusted as many times as needed by you before the Member accepts it. The Member can also request changes to the proposal through the chat interface.
Proposing changes to a visit
If changes to scheduled visits are required, this can be completed by following the below steps:
From the schedule page, tap on the visit that requires a change.
Select “edit visit” and complete the necessary changes required before proposing the new visit.
The Member will then receive a notification with the new visit proposal and changes made to review and accept.
Additional proposals and visits
If you and the Member have agreed on a regular visit to be scheduled, please notify the Member to contact the self-managed team directly for this to be arranged.
