What is an ABN?

An ABN is a unique 11 digit number that identifies your business (companies and sole traders) to the Government. ABN's are free when you register with the Australian Business Register (ABR).

Helpers on the Five Good Friends platform are independent contractors and require an Australian Business Number (ABN) to invoice Members for services.

How to apply for an ABN

To apply for an ABN you need to be:

  • genuinely running your own business

  • paying your own income tax and GST directly to the Australian Tax Office (ATO)

  • maintaining a business bank account separate from your personal account

If you previously had an ABN that's been cancelled, you can have it reinstated if your business structure is not changing.
