Useful apps and resources

The monitoring of warnings and alerts is one of the best ways to stay prepared and informed. Here are some valuable resources and apps to keep handy during this season.

Simple precautions

  • 🥵 Heatwaves: Heatwaves are expected to become more prevalent. Take precautions to stay cool during extreme heat. Be aware of local heatwave warnings. Be alert for signs of heat stress.

  • 🔥 Bushfires: Keep an eye on local bushfire alerts and warnings, especially if you reside in bushfire-prone areas. Stay informed about evacuation plans and shelter areas. As we saw last summer, air quality can become hazardous even though a fire may not be in your immediate area.

  • ⛈️ Storms: Stay updated on weather forecasts for thunderstorms and severe weather events. Secure outdoor items and stay indoors during storms.

  • 💦 Flooding: Know if you are in a flood-prone area and stay updated on flood warnings. Have an emergency kit ready in case of evacuation.

Five Good Friends Emergency Response Team

In situations of emergency, we assemble our Emergency Disaster Response Team (EDRT) and follow our Emergency and Disaster Response Plan. This team are responsible for guiding our actions. They monitor events, identify Members and Helpers in affected locations and conduct welfare checks. Ongoing safety is always the priority in their decision-making.

Staying informed and prepared is crucial during extreme events and emergencies.
